While the XZ-1 was among the best of its generation, the XZ-2 lags behind its contemporaries and even its predecessor (up to a point). 100 crop, ISO 100, 24mm (112mm 35mm equivalent) f3.5. My spare Stylus 1 is here at the shore with me for it's great reach, I have tele 1.7x which I highly recommend, it maintains f2.8 to 510mm and using 2x (very successful at low ISO) you get to 1,020mm still f2.8.It would appear that the only real negative of the XZ-2's switch from CCD to CMOS is its noise performance, which, to be honest, is really pretty bad. So, Stylus 1 stays home unless great reach and/or bright reach needed. Now, I can do the same with my rx100m6 larger sensor, no bending, just zoom in range 100-200mm when close, get very nice results. My back and knees are shot, so flowers, low stuff, even though RX1r is terrific, I started using mt Stylus 1, standing up, zooming so much that I was getting nice subject isolation. So, except for shallow focus, the IQ difference between my FF RX1r with superb corner to corner sharpness and my 1" rx100 with slightly soft corners, and, even low ISO Stylus 1 images all look great and hard to see differences at these sizes. People I share with view smaler than that. Viewing within a window, with a menu bar, the image is smaller. nearly all rx100 video is post audio, not for me.Īs for best IQ, I am realistic, my max printing is 8.5 x 11 and max viewing is 27" wide monitor, the max image height, if a desktop image, is only 13". It's mics are so omni-directional, and tiny, frequency range limited, as all the small ones are, and no mic jack, so I don't use it for video. I usually wait till second generation but pre-ordered. I shoot musicians in small music clubs.Īs it happened, just as I was going to try Canon 100, the Sony rx100 1" sensor revolution was announced. The 599.99 XZ-2 retains its ancestor's most impressive featureits f/1.8 zoom lensand attempts to build on it with a new 12-megapixel CMOS sensor, an innovative dual-mode lens ring, and a tilting touchscreen LCD. The new Olympus XZ-2 is a premium compact camera featuring a 12.3-megapixel 1/1.7 BSI CMOS sensor, an ultra-bright 28-112mm equivalent f/1.8-2.5 zoom lens, a high-resolution 3-inch touch. I loved the XZ-1 stills, but hated it's video, inability to focus without constantly hunting, slow to find something. Successor to the XZ-1, it sports the same 28-112mm equivalent 4x zoom with a bright f1.8-2.5 maximum aperture, bu. If I still had an XZ-1, I would pair it with an rx100m6.Īlso, realistically, if corner to corner sharpness was important, shouldn't a larger sensor behind a great lens be used?Īgain,I agree the XZ-1 lens is remarkable! The Olympus XZ-2 is a compact aimed at the demands of enthusiasts. I love having my Stylus 1 and rx100 paired. One of Olympus biggest selling points of the XZ-2s design is the touch-sensitive 3-inch 920,000 dot tilting LCD, offering photographers the ability to focus and shoot instantly, and zoom into. Rx100m6, used close while zoomed 100-200mm range, gives some very nice shallow focus depth even using smaller aperture and higher ISO. You can crop the heck out of a 1" sensor image. ![]() I tested, showed, the rx100m6 corners are less sharp than the earlier short reach models as another poster said,īut, The opportunities of success using very frequently needed higher ISO gives terrific results, I never notice my corners, and, I crop nearly everything I shoot, goodbye corners anyway. However, my 1" sensor Sony's, m1 and m3, short range, while having less sharp corners, the lenses are otherwise excellent. Olympus Stylus XZ-2 Point & Shoot Digital Camera 4x zoom lens white kittyatwork (150) Est. It's reach, doubled by very good 2X, and further expanded by conversion lens is intoxicating. ![]() I have Stylus 1 with same sensor size, I get very good results, it's superb constant f2.8 lens a big part of it's capabilities. It's bright lens is awesome, when used within it's sensor size's ISO limits. I had an XZ-1, I agree, it's lens is remarkable.
