Subsequent to our spectacular time together, I indicated that if I were to go diving elsewhere, I would be happy to fly them there with me due to their knowledge and level of professionalism I would not want to go with anyone else. Each dive that we shared resulted in spectacular experiences - all differing between reefs. In fact, they even had an underwater "note pad" to show me the specific aquatic species that we were lucky to encounter. Dinorah and Ysabela are exceptional leaders and true professionals in this discipline. Not only did they meet and match my expectations, but they surpassed them with flying colors. Of note, it took me approximately five minutes to gain the confidence to descend under water but with their gracious assistance coupled with their calm demeanor, I became confident and comfortable, which resulted in a phenomenal experience for a beginner. Candidly - with significant dive training prior to my trip to Cozumel, I was still extremely nervous. Why did they make us swim from the starfish to the turtles? Was there something in the contract that said that it had to be two stops, not three? Couldn't the kids at least have ridden in the boat (which was there waiting for us when we got to the turtles)? Why was the guide with the life preserver ring so far away from a child? Why pull us away from the lobsters when the kid was still trying to dive down to see them? Above all, why take a snorkeling tour to see sand when there's such abundance of life in these waters?ĭinorah and Ysabela are a fantastic force to be reckoned with. It would have been a great experience, if it hadn't been for the fact that the poor kid was so tired at that point. Along the way we saw one (1) trigger fish and basically nothing else but sand and the occasional clump of sea grass.Īs promised, there were some medium-sized hawksbill turtles eating sea grass and letting the snorkelers free dive pretty close to them. At the end of the swim, she was tired and asked to go back onto the boat. The guide with the life preserver ring was too far ahead for the kid to catch up. We had to help the 7 year old by taking her hands and towing her between two adults. The swim to the turtles was 15 minutes of hard finning. But the guides called us away to swim to the turtles. Great! Some life! The coral head was about 10 feet deep, and one of the kids (7 years old) was working her way up to diving down that deep to get a good look. We stopped at the only coral head we saw during the whole trip, and saw a half dozen lobsters under it. We were told that we could swim a bit and see some turtles. The second was "El Cielo de las Estrellas", which, as promised had a bunch of fat starfish on the sand. There were some areas with sea grass, with a few starfish, but other than that nothing. But there was very little other life in the water. The first ("El Cielo") had a number of southern sting rays, which were clearly used to being fed and very habituated to humans. So I'm giving this review an extra star (bringing it up to 2). My expectations were not met, but I didn't make sure ahead of time what they should be. We did two stops, and both were just sand, no reef at all. But I was led to believe that we'd visit a reef. Let me start out by saying that someone else in the party booked this trip, so I don't know exactly what was promised. We just got back from a snorkeling tour with four adults and two kids.
